Tradition and the modern world collide as Simin and Nader argue about where to live. Simin wants to leave Iran in order to give their 11-year-old daughter, Termah, greater opportunities, but Nader feels they must stay so he can look after his aging father who is suffering from Alzheimer's. Simin leaves Nader and files for divorce, but the judge refuses to grant her request. Meanwhile, Nader hires Hojjat to care for his father while he is at work, but Hojjat is unable to make it on the first day. Desperate for the money, Hojjat's pregnant wife takes on the job, even though she does not have her husband's permission. Events soon spiral out of control, forcing each person to evaluate what to do, even though it may mean causing harm to another person. |
