In this Disney Nature documentary, a 3-month-old chimpanzee is orphaned when tragedy strikes his troop. What happens next amazes scientists and nature lovers alike. A full grown chimpanzee male adopts the baby and raises him to healthy adulthood. The documentary follows the chimpanzees as they behave similar to a human village - two tribes fight for territory and food. Mortal enemies argue over who will possess the best areas of sustenance. While this story focuses on Oscar, the baby who loses his mother in one of these territorial skirmishes, the back drop is centered around the tribal wars. The male who adopts Oscar is the troop leader, which further surprises scientists because the troop leader does not typically notice the infants of the group, leaving that duty to the females. A 3-months-old chimpanzee is separated from his troop and is then adopted by a fully-grown male. |
