Overview
Patrick Jane was a psychic medium who was a bit of a celebrity. He appeared regularly on television and during one appearance, he claimed to have helped the authorities profile a serial killer. The killer, Red John, was angered by Jane's claims. In retaliation, he murdered Patrick Jane's wife and daughter. Jane dropped his psychic career revealing that it was a con. He joined the CBI, which is the California Bureau of Investigation. He wanted to help them track down the killer using the skills that made him a celebrity psychic. He could read people based on his insights into human behavior. He had other skills like pick-pocketing and hypnosis that comes in handy during investigations. These skills were picked up when he traveled with his con artist father in various carnivals.
