Robert Pujol has an oppressive grasp on everyone around him, from his trophy wife Suzanne to the overworked employees of his umbrella factory. Pujol's shell cracks, however, when the workers rebel and go on strike. Pujol falls ill during the crisis and Suzanne is forced to take over the company. It doesn't take long for everyone to realize that she is more than up to the task. She satisfies the striking employees with the help of her former paramour, Maurice Babin, and becomes an effective manager. When Pujol returns declaring himself fully recovered and ready to retake control of his company, he finds a newly independent Suzanne along with Maurice, who seems to be back in her life.
