Overview
Fanny Price’s poor family sends her, at the age of 10, to live with her aunts and cousins. At Mansfield Park, Fanny becomes a member of the family, but always remains a little bit of an outsider. Fanny’s closest friend is her cousin Edmund, and she is hurt when Edmund falls in love with Mary Crawford, a much more sophisticated woman than Fanny. Mary’s worldly brother Henry initially falls for Fanny’s cousin Maria, but transfers his affections to Fanny when Maria marries someone else. Fanny’s relatives wish her to marry Henry, but Fanny’s feelings for Edmund forbid it. She is sent home to live in relative poverty, until Edmund finally comes to his senses and realizes he loves her.
