Overview
Dana's mother has been dead for years, and Dana misses her terribly. When she finds her mother's diary with pictures of her mother surfing in South Africa, Dana decides that to connect with her mother, she'll surf everywhere her mother did. Dana's mother always wanted to surf in Jeffreys Bay but never got the chance to do that. To honor her mother, Dana will surf there too. Dana's father is at work when she leaves. She packs a small bag and takes a carving belonging to her mother for her trip to South Africa from California. On the plane, she meets Grant. They hit it off, and he suggests that when she's in his area of the world, she should find him. On the bus to her first destination, she is followed by a man who tries to sit next to her. Instead, Dana calls to a girl she's never met to take the seat. The two girls become fast friends and travel together to the beach. Dana's adventure starts there and she meets many people on her odyssey to follow in her mother's footsteps.
