Overview
Sam Flynn is the son of Kevin Flynn, a famous software engineer who has been missing for several decades. Even though Sam is the leading shareholder of his father's company, ENCOM, he has no interest in running the company. A top executive within ENCOM convinces Sam to investigate a strange message coming from his father's closed arcade. Sam discovers a giant computer in a hidden part of the arcade. Upon the discovery, Sam is transported into The Grid. The Grid is a virtual reality filled with avatars of his father's past work. Immediately, Sam confronts the rogue CLU, which resembles his father in his youth. Before Sam is killed in a light cycle match, he is rescued by Quorra, who turns out to be a assistant to Sam's father, who has been trapped in the system of his own creation for years. Sam, Kevin and Quorra must foil the CLU's plan to cross over to the human world and deactivate the system before it can cause any more harm. Through this process, Sam learns to appreciate his father's work, eventually escaping the system with Quorra to the real world, with Kevin sacrificing himself to stop the CLU.
