Film director James Whale has been living a boring existence in retirement aided by his long-time housekeeper from Hungary when his life is upended by a youthful male gardener who comes to work at his estate. Whale, who is homosexual, clearly has a sexual interest in the young man and tries to form a friendship with him. At first, the gardener is unaware of Whale's sexual designs on him but by the time the director's housekeeper clues him into the game he is playing, the gardener has begun to develop true feelings of caring and friendship for the old man who is gradually being challenged by the ravages of aging. |
