This romantic comedy takes place in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn and is shot in black and white. In Spike Lee’s premier full length film debut, heroine Nola Darling struggles with issues of independence, sexual liberation and celibacy as she juggles three suitors who could not be more different. Jamie is the good natured, polite suitor who adores Nola’s every move. Model and suitor, Greer loves Nola but not as much as he admires his own good looks. Mars Blackmon (Spike Lee) is a nerdy Brooklyn bike messenger who loves the beautiful Nola almost as much as he loves his signature sneakers. After many fits and starts with each boyfriend, Nola decides to try celibacy but with interesting results. |
