A young Swedish boy named Ingemar, having what he considers a miserable life living with a terminally ill mother and an older brother who hates him, compares his misfortune to that of the Russian dog shot into outer space who was killed in the process. When Ingemar begins to act like a dog himself, he is shipped off to live with an aunt and uncle who shower him with attention and affection. Even his schoolmates help to bring him out of his shell. By the time his mother passes away, Ingemar has stopped comparing his life to a dog's or anyone who is less fortunate than himself and starts to see how he can create good memories to carry himself through life's challenges. |
