The funeral of journalist Joe Strombel gives his friends and co-workers a chance to recount stories that describe the man's defining, and destructive trait: his stubborn pursuit of the story at all costs. But you can't keep a good reporter down, and from beyond the grave, Joe reveals the secrets of a serial killer who has been terrifying all London to Sondra Pransky, a journalism student from the States. Sondra encounters Joe while appearing, and disappearing, with professional magician Sidney Waterman, who pulls her from the audience to assist in his hackneyed trick. With a reluctant Sidney in tow, Sondra relies on the advice of the helpful ghost of Joe to pursue her elusive target: the well-born and well-regarded aristocrat Peter Lyman. |
