Bernadette is an Australian aging transsexual who has enjoyed a successful career as part of an entertainment trio with a lip-synching act that's been a big hit in Sydney. But now Bernadette, troubled by the unexpected death of someone he loved, feels like chucking it all. But he decides to accompany his stage partners, Felicia and Mitzi, when they decide to travel to fulfill a casino musical engagement in the backwater town of Alice Springs. The refurbished purple school bus that takes this intriguing trio into Australia's outback is named Priscilla and provides a unique dressing room and home away from home while this group is travelling. Encounters with fellow travelers and episodes of homophobia have Bernadette questioning the decisions she's made about her life. |
