Overview
Shy teenager Mark Hunter moves to Phoenix after his father gets a job as a school commissioner. His parents give him a short-wave radio to talk with friends back East, but Mark uses it instead to express his frustrations with high school and life as pirate radio station DJ “Hard Harry.” Soon, repressed local teens targeted by school officials because they don't fit into an “ideal” student body tune in and begin to live as Hard Harry dictates. When students start to openly protest, and one teen commits suicide while on-air with Harry, school officials, the FCC and the police try to stop the broadcasts. Mark is eventually arrested, but not before he inspires teens to pump up the volume with their own pirate stations.
