Miss Pettigrew is a frumpy nanny who keeps getting fired, and after her latest eviction from her job, the agency that has hired her out doesn't want anything more to do with her. However, she overhears about a job as a social secretary for a young actress and decides that would fit the bill perfectly. She is especially anxious to get into a position where she might eat something, though this attempt is thwarted throughout her day. She easily succeeds in convincing the flighty young actress that she is the secretary she sent for, and before long, the two of them develop a friendship. She tries to advice her young friend, taking into account the looming world war, as she juggles three potential romantic suitors. |
