After his hard drive crashes, Monty is left with just one copy of the thesis he needs to graduate from Harvard with honors, which he promptly runs out to copy. On the way, he trips and watches helplessly as his thesis falls down a grate into the basement of one of the university's libraries. When Monty finds the paper, he also discovers Simon, a homeless man who is squatting in the basement and has taken custody of Monty's paper. The pair reach a deal - each day that Monty provides Simon with food and shelter, he will receive one page of the paper in return. Monty isn't thrilled, but along the way, he begins to understand the humanity of Simon and the other homeless who populate alleys and basements, surrounded by wealth and privilege. |
