Anna Mae Bullock, raised in a small town in Nutbush Tennessee by her grandmother always had a knack for blues singing. After the death of her grandmother Anna Mae reunited with her mother and sister in St. Louis. While at a club, Anna Mae became enticed by the charming band leader Ike Tuner. After performing on stage Anna Mae earned a spot in the band and a new name, Tina. The Ike Turner review gained musical success and a romance developed between Ike and Tina leading to marriage. Ike was very demanding and became abusive to Tina. Although the couple rose to the top in stardom, the marriage was too volatile and Tina had to find the courage to break free. |
