Teenager Joan Jett dreams of starting all-girl rock band and becoming a star. She pitches the idea to a record producer, Kim Fowley who she met in a club and seems interested in the idea. Kim introduces Joan to Sandy, a drummer and suggests that they recruit a young blonde to sing. They find Cherie, who also has dreams of being a star. After adding Lita on lead guitar and Robin on bass, the band is named the Runaways, get signed to Mercury Records and travel as far as Japan on tour. Cherie’s drug and alcohol abuse combined with the use of her face alone in promoting the band causes conflicts in the group until she finally quits and Joan starts he own band. |
