Overview
Unassuming Arthur Dent awakes to find out his home is slated for destruction. He soon finds out that is the least of his problems. While drowning his sorrows, Arthur finds out his friend, Ford Perfect, is an alien. Ford is visiting Earth as a writer for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a travel manual for the universe. Worse, the Earth is to be destroyed. Before the planet detonates, Ford and Arthur escape on an alien ship. Arthur’s journey exposes him to weird cultures, the galactic politics, and Tricia McMillan, a woman he once met at a party. Meanwhile, a computer mourns the destruction of the ultimate laboratory: Earth. Construction of Earth Mark 2 is underway, but it requires Arthur’s reluctant help.
