Trailer | Overview When British soldiers are captured during WWII and sent to a Burmese prison camp, they are ordered to construct a bridge for the Japanese. The prisoner’s British commander, Lt. Colonel Nicholson, first refuses to cooperate, but then both he and his men are tortured. Eventually, the British begin to work on the bridge. Nicholson doesn’t want to help the Japanese, but he thinks having real work to be proud of will help his men survive. During a planned escape attempt, one British prisoner gets away and is taken to a Ceylon hospital. The British inform him that he has to go back to the bridge site, where he had been working, and blow it up so the Japanese can’t use it. |
