Overview
Briony Tallis is a 13-year-old girl with big dreams of being a writer. However, she is a rather lonely and anti-social child, and she has a ferocious crush on Robbie Turner, a friend of her older sister Cecilia. When she discovers that there is more to their relationship than platonic friendship, she becomes enraged and lashes out with a dreadful accusation that lands Robbie in prison just as World War I is beginning. Briony's simple lie has unimaginable repercussions, and as an adult, she is so haunted by the chain of events that she started that she decides to make Cecilia and Robbie the subjects of a novel. However, the story she puts to paper differs significantly from the truth of what happened to them.
