Farmer Charlie Anderson is determined to keep his six sons out of the Civil War. Despite his efforts to preserve the old ways, the war intrudes into their lives, causing misfortune. His youngest son is mistaken for a Confederate soldier and interned in a Union prison camp. He must initiate a daring escape across Union lines to save himself. Meanwhile, Charlie frantically searches for his son, but soon finds that in the horrors of war, loss is inevitable.
