Overview
When her father asks, Ellen Gulden gives up her life in New York City to move back in with her parents upstate to help care for her cancer stricken mother. Ellen soon discovers that her father won't keep his end of the bargain and Ellen must care for her mother alone. Along the way she finds out that her father was never the literary expert she thought he was as she watches him hang on to the final threads of his professional life. When her mother dies of a morphine overdose, the authorities first look at Ellen. Ellen must prove her innocence and learn to live with the fact that her family is not what she thought they were.
