This sweet melodrama is filled with an all-star cast and follows the life of four girls growing up in small town America in the 1970's. It is told in flashback from the viewpoint of Sam, who has grown up to be a science fiction author and is telling the story of that eventful summer. The girls, as youngsters, are trying to raise money to purchase a tree house when the flashback begins. While they are trying to save their pennies and avoid the Wormers, four guys who never avoid a chance to torment them, they sneak outside to perform a cemetery seance. After contacting a boy at the seance, they decide to venture to a nearby town to find out more about the boy. Both on the way to the town and back from the town, they have a number of adventures, including meeting with a Vietnam vet, a psychic, and a chance to get back at the Wormers for a previous prank. |
