Overview
With their father serving as a chaplain in the Civil War, four sisters named Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy have adventures as they grow up under the watchful eye of their loving mother in Concord, Massachusetts. Jo wants to be a writer. By day, she works for her tiresome Aunt March, but in the evenings, she scribbles stories, including plays the girls sometimes perform. Jo also befriends their dashing next door neighbor Laurie. Laurie’s tutor Mr. Brook becomes Meg’s sweetheart. The girls, except for timid Beth who struggles with ill health, eventually all marry and find their way in the world, overcoming their poverty and other challenges that face young women of their day.
