Racial tensions run high in New York City. As an African-American man, Flipper Purify has a beautiful, African-American wife and a lucrative job. He is concerned that his architectural firm is not hiring enough African-Americans to fill positions. Explaining that they want the most talented person, not race, working at the firm, Flipper concedes and finds that an Italian woman is now the new secretary. Finding himself utterly drawn to Angie, the new secretary, Flipper begins a sordid relationship with her. The fact that Flipper cheated on his wife is not the big issue, but the reality that the woman is white sickens the wife deeply. Flipper and Angie begin a new life together, but must find a way to manage the world's perspective of their love. An African-American man and Italian woman walking hand-in-hand down the street is dangerous in these times. |
