Overview
An alien race abandons its dying world and uses solar wind to travel to Earth. They land in San Francisco. The first few aliens land on plants and form small pods with pink blooms. Several people collect the flowers and take them home. The next morning, half formed human bodies begin to appear and people start reporting that their relatives or friends are behaving strangely. Matthew Bennell, a health inspector, begins to realize that the cause is extraterrestrial. The pods duplicate people while they are sleeping and then destroy their human counterparts. Matthew and his friends gather together to try and escape the pod people. However, after setting fire to a warehouse of pods, Matthew is ultimately defeated by the alien race.
