Overview
In a world where advanced technology has enabled individuals to covertly enter others' dreams, Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an expert in using this process to obtain hidden information from targets' subconscious minds. However, tragic circumstances have left him an exile, cut off from his home and family. When Cobb is hired to influence the heir to a vast corporation to break up his father's financial empire, he assembles a team of skilled people to achieve the long-desired goal of inception: the planting of a thought inside a dream that the recipient will take as his or her own idea. When the team enters their target's mind, they reach progressively deeper levels of dreams within dreams. Cobb confronts the memory of his dead wife and successfully plants the desired thought in his target. In the end, he returns home to his children, though it is unclear if this is real or still a dream.
