In the small town of Starling, 17-year-old Jem struggles to find her place in her conservative Christian community. She feels stifled by the expectations of her family and church, and she longs for something more. When her charismatic youth pastor, Owen, returns to town, Jem is drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
