Pete, the nephew of racing legend Jim Douglas, inherits his prized race car and take a trip to South America to pick it up, bringing his friend D.J. along with him. Neither of them is too impressed with the appearance of Herbie, a rickety Volkswagen bug, but they soon learn his secret: he has a mind of his own. While the men want to enter him into a race, complications arise when they discover that a young boy has stowed away in Herbie. They become tangled up in a drug ring and reliant on a wealthy woman and her niece for funding. Pete has a crush on the niece and fears he's blowing his chances with her with this scheme, but he sees no other option. |
