Overview
Minamata is not only a neurological disease caused by severe mercury poisoning but also the focus of W. Eugene Smith. Smith, a war photographer of the past, travels to Japan to investigate the disease and its effects. While along the coast of Japan, Smith documents the effects on each of the communities he visits, surprised by how much damage is left in the wake of the high levels of mercury in the fish eaten by the people of these communities.
