Overview
Elliot is a quiet and sensitive boy who lives with his little sister, older brother and mom. He is rather lonely, so when he discovers a gentle alien near his house, his initial fright soon gives way to delight. Even though E.T. does not speak any English initially and speaks only sparingly once he learns a bit, he and Elliot develop a deeply empathic connection. Although he is very fond of Elliot, E.T. wants to return to his race, so the kids help him find a way to "phone home." Meanwhile, Elliot knows that it is imperative for him to keep E.T. secret, since scientists will want to capture and experiment on him. It becomes a race against time; can he leave before he's found?
