Overview
Dr. Ellie Arroway has been drawn to the stars since she was a young girl. When mysterious plans for building a space travel machine are sent to earth via satellite, Dr. Arroway is the first to volunteer to be part of the project to build the machine. The nations of the world join together to build the device, but the project is not without controversy. The scientist chosen to test the device is killed when fanatics destroy the device in a religious fervor. Dr Arroway is told that a second machine was constructed secretly and she has been chosen to test it out.
