Overview
At Atlantic City, two very different girls meet and become best friends. It follows them through their ups and downs as they grow into two very different women. Bette Midler plays a struggling, charismatic singer who does not fit into the square, wealthy lifestyle of Barbara Hershey's character, an up-and-coming lawyer. Their friendship is almost completely broken when one steals the other's boyfriend. The friendship will be challenged again when the two friends reunite, hoping to beat back cancer which will claim one woman and leave the other with a new challenge, raising her beat friend's daughter. The musical interludes are all Bette with glamorous love songs and silly songs like one about the so-called inventors of the bra, Otto Titsling and Phillip de Brassiere.
