The succession of the English throne is in doubt. King Henry II has three sons, each of whom wants to don the crown. Meanwhile, Henry's wife Eleanor of Aquitaine plans to support her son Richard's claim to the throne. Little does she know that her husband secretly intends to name Richard's younger brother John as his heir. The situation is further complicated when the king of France demands that Richard marry his sister Alais, Henry's mistress.
