When a well-to-do American man visits a small village in India, an unlikely romance springs between the man and a the village beauty. Lalita helps her father run a local business and she remains content to be a businesswoman; however, her mother is determined to marry one of her daughters off to a wealthy man. At a local wedding, Lalita meets Will Darcy, the rich American man who she immediately develops a distaste for as she considers him completely disrespectful towards her Indian culture and heritage. When Lalita meets Will's friend, Johnny Wickham, she is immediately attracted to him and he solidifies her opinion of Will. However, Wickham runs off with Lalita's little sister and Will emphasizes to Lalita what a scoundrel his "friend" is. Will eventually returns to India for another wedding and wins over Lalita with some newly found knowledge about her culture. |
