"Ever After: A Cinderella Story" tells the familiar tale of Cinderella in a fresh new way. The story is framed by an introduction and conclusion taking place a century or so later and involving the Grimm Brothers. The main portion, meanwhile, shows us a spunky girl named Danielle who adores her father and is devastated when he dies shortly after bringing home a cold stepmother and two stepsisters, one spoiled and one sweet. Danielle grows up mistreated by two members of her stepfamily, and she considers the servants of the house to be her true family. When one is threatened, she risks her life to save him, throwing herself into the path of the prince. Their resulting romance is devoid of magic but very tender. |
