Despite his odd jobs as a janitor and construction worker, 20-year-old Will Hunting (Matt Damon) is actually a math prodigy and self-educated genius. His cover is blown when he comes under the attention of Professor Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard) after solving an unsolvable problem on a campus white board. Already in trouble with the law for his fights and his attitude, Will is offered the chance to work with Professor Lambeau instead of going to prison. The catch? He's also required to see a therapist (Robin Williams), a good-humored yet equally troubled soul who retired to escape his problems. Together, through unconventional therapy sessions that eventually morph into an even unlikelier friendship, they learn to let go of the past, heal their hurts and face a brighter future.
