In Emma, a film based on Jane Austen's novel by the same name, the titular character, Emma Woodhouse, assigns herself the role of matchmaker in her town. Unfortunately, she routinely matches people who are not right for each other, resulting in hilarity and awkwardness. Despite her efforts, Emma is mostly an unsuccessful matchmaker. Even as she tries to match up her friends and neighbors, Emma is to distracted to recognize her own feelings for the dashing Mr. Knightly.
