Overview
Film-maker Laura Poitras, whose project focuses on government surveillance of private citizens after 9/11, is contacted via encrypted email by "citizenfour", who claims he has inside knowledge of covert surveillance by intelligence agencies and National Security Administration officials. The film-maker and her colleague Glenn Greenwald fly to Hong Kong for several meetings with "citizenfour" who turns out to be Edward Snowden. With camera in tow, she filmed encounters with Snowden as they occurred, providing a visual diary of often tense interviews with their subject.
