American songwriter Sixto Rodriguez had a brief career in the 1970s. After his albums failed to sell well, he was dropped by his record label. Years after his last album is released, his songs become popular among anti-apartheid activists in South Africa. Rumors abound that Rodriguez is long-dead, having committed suicide. Unconvinced by these vague rumors, two of his most devoted South African fans set out on a mission to find out what really happened to the faded singer.
