Bret Maverick never stayed in one place long enough to get himself into loads of trouble. He was a high stakes poker player who frequently tricked his opponents. He used his cunning and smarts to elude his adversaries. He was never dishonest at his card games unless someone tried to cheat him first. There were many dishonest poker players. He was honest regarding his debts and while he wasn't the fastest gun in the west, he was a great fist fighter. He never lost. Bret Maverick called himself a coward, but he never ran from a fight. Bart Maverick was Bret's brother. The two were very much alike. Bart was also honest and used his brain to outwit his slower, cheating opponents. He was sharp but more dramatic than his comedic brother. They worked together on schemes to win back money stolen from them but otherwise the brothers invested in some serious sibling rivalry when it came to money or women. |
