Overview
Darren Shan is a pretty ordinary teenager. He gets wonderful grades, and his family loves him. He is a devoted friend, sibling and son. His best friend Steve is a bit of a trouble maker, however. When Steve convinces him to go to the carnival with him, Darren discovers a dark secret about the ringmaster that Steve already knows. The ringmaster is a vampire. Steve wants to be turned into a vampire, but Darren knows what kind of trouble that would create for him. However, he is accidentally bitten by a vampire that does just that. In an effort to save his friend, Darren enters into a dangerous deal with the vampire ringmaster, knowing that it may have a devastating effect on his own life.
