Three friends want nothing more than to be rappers in the music industry. As wholesome African-Americans, however, they have no "street cred" to become famous. Albert, Otis and Euripides visit a nightclub in search of a gig. The owner, Gusto, is unimpressed. At the same time as the meeting, a police raid descends on Gusto, placing him and his employees in jail for local crimes they allegedly committed. Taking this arrest as a sign, Albert decides to borrow Gusto's criminal background. He develops a rap group called CB4, or Cell Block 4, and busts out of his squeaky-clean image. Acting as a gangsta, Albert and his friends hit the music charts with successful singles. Bringing in money and women, Albert must find a balance between his real life and gangsta facade before Gusto is released from prison.
