Overview
This remake of the 1934 comedy starring Shirley Temple is based on a Damon Runyon story. When bookie Sorrowful Jones demands full payment on a $10 bet, his client hands over his 6-year old daughter as a marker. But before he can fully replay Jones what he owes, the debtor kills himself and Jones is left stuck taking care of the young girl he has taken to calling the "kid." Eventually, Jones manages to develop a father-daughter relationship with the girl and as the youngster helps to melt his cynical heart, Jones' relationship with girlfriend Amanda Worthington also takes a turn for the better as he professes his true love for her as well.
