Talented poet John Keats is brilliant, but plagued with poor health. When he moves in with his friend Charles Brown, he meets his next door neighbors, the Brawne family. Keats becomes close with Fanny Brawne after the death of his beloved brother. Fanny's light-hearted nature contrasts sharply with the somber Keats, and the couple soon finds that no one approves of their relationship. Fanny's mother recognizes Keats' poverty and Brown feels that Fanny is too flighty. In the midst of general disapproval, the couple falls deeply in love.
