Overview
Follow two Jesuit missionaries on a spiritual and spatial journey through wilds of 17th century Canada as they search for an isolated mission. Aided by skilled Algonquin guides and sheltered by the indigenous peoples they meet along the way, the two priests encounter challenges that will shape them differently. The elder struggles with the transcendent nature of faith as he experiences it in an environment alien to him. The younger transgresses against local customs by falling in love with the daughter of a powerful indigenous leader. Both must pay the price of misunderstanding and coming to terms with the practices and punishments enacted by the Algonquin culture, and see the foreshadowed consequences of attempting to impose an alien way of being on a people possessed of a rich and established heritage.
