Jean is a struggling single mother recovering from a relationship with an abusive man. She decides to move, unannounced, to the ranch of her father-in-law, Einar, with whom she has not spoken for a very long time and who does not know that he has a granddaughter. Einar harbors feelings of anger towards Jean for the death of his son in a car accident. When she arrives, he is caring for his friend Mitch while he recovers from a bear attack. As Einar spends time with Mitch and Jean, he sees that Mitch has forgiven the bear, which helps his wounds to heal. Einar begins to realize that forgiving Jean is the first step to healing their relationship, and forging a relationship with his granddaughter.
