Walter Whitney is a respected businessman living in a white community in San Marino, California. His father-in-law is also his boss, and is an anti-Semite, leading the Jewish Walter to hide his religious affiliation to survive in the workplace. To complicate matters, Walter's past catches up with him when his long-lost black son, Roger, finds him. However, as the bond between Walter and Roger grows stronger, the pressures of Walter's wife and her racist father threaten their new life.
