Ned Racine is an overconfident but uninspired criminal lawyer in a small coastal town in Florida. During a particularly intense heat wave, he is approached by the alluring but married Matty Walker and is immediately captivated. A torrid love affair ensues and eventually both realize that the only obstacle to their relationship is Matty's much older husband, a wealthy businessman named Edmund. Matty's prenuptial agreement would leave her very little in the event of a divorce and a scheme is plotted to eliminate Edmund. This plan hinges on Ned's knowledge of the law and will allow both Ned and Matty to escape the possibility of prosecution. Their relationship begins to crumble, however, when law enforcement start to investigate their own suspicions in this atmospheric thriller. |
