A Los Angeles advertising executive leaves his job in protest after being asked to take a lateral transfer to New York instead of a promotion. He and his wife liquidate all their assets and set out in a Winnebago motor home with no specific itinerary. Their carefree idealism soon meets reality after she loses most of their money at the roulette tables in Las Vegas. They both have to settle for menial jobs in a small town, and their earlier sense of entitlement gives way to a more realistic notion about personal expectations and career development. After realizing that the initial job offer was not so bad after all, they depart for New York to reclaim it.
